You Are Your Fitness Habits
A bold and accurate statement, but what does it mean?
They say health is the new wealth. I’ve been reflecting on my fitness habits and just how important physical fitness is to me. If you know me, you’ll know I work out - a lot! My physical fitness is a massive part of how I take care of my mental fitness.
But when I thought about this more, I zoomed out and looked at fitness as a whole. I remembered there are so many dimensions to being fit that make a huge difference to how we live our lives. Let’s break them down.
The Four Dimensions of Fitness
Physical Fitness
How can we stay as physically healthy as possible? There’s no one-size-fits-all answer here. It’s about finding exercise habits that suit your ability, preferences, and lifestyle. Physical fitness is present when you:
Feel flexible, agile, and resilient.
Can keep going under pressure, even when the odds are against you.
Feel strong enough to face life’s challenges without giving up.
Mental Fitness
This is about keeping your mindset sharp, strong, and solution-focused. Mental fitness is what helps you:
Push forward when challenges pop up.
Stay clear-headed about what you can and can’t control.
Focus on finding agency and solutions, while learning to accept what you can’t change.
Spiritual Fitness
Spiritual fitness is about finding a clear purpose that fuels your actions and brings meaning to your life. It’s there when you’re:
Doing what you love.
Loving what you do.
Feeling occupational satisfaction that drives you toward your goals.
Financial Fitness
Financial fitness is about creating the means to live the life you want. It’s not just about making money but feeling abundant and matching your resources to your needs and desires. When you have financial fitness, you feel secure and empowered to take the next step in life.
