Power up your team

Life is better with a team

Whether it’s about your personal life, your career path, your health, or matters of the heart, I believe that each day creates opportunities to have more, be more, and do more.

Having a supportive and wise team by your side makes this more likely to happen. My teammates do many things to help me. They anchor me when I need grounding, scaffold me when I need something to lean on, and lift me to new heights when it is time to make a change and fly high.

Having recently reached a pain point in my life, I realised that I was holding myself back from doing what I wanted and needed to do with a story that I had made up. Instead of telling myself a story of possibility, I was listening to a fearful internal narrative that kept me tethered in a safe place, stopping me from casting off my shell to help me grow!

Stepping out of the box

I recognised that I was getting in my own way by putting off having what I needed most. My coach (yes, even the coach needs a coach) helped me see that the future vision that I dreamt of could become my reality if I stopped telling myself that my hopes and dreams would have to wait.

I knew I needed to make a big decision, take a new direction and leap forward into a brave new world.

Yet, I have already taken risks and weathered storms in my life, and these experiences gave me wisdom, courage, and hope. They made me more than I was before. I have beautiful stories to tell from these adventures.

Rally your team

In tough times, we need to draw on support and advice from trusted, carefully chosen people. They have an essential role in reminding us of our potential while ensuring that our decisions are informed. They boost our confidence, challenge us, and share wisdom. Who do you have on the team that helps you in some way?

Purposefully thriving

To help you explore this further, here are some questions to ponder.

  • What is the biggest challenge you are currently facing right now?

  • Who can you turn to for help with these sorts of matters?

  • Who do you go to in life because they help you or make a difference?

  • If you were building a new team from scratch, who would you choose?

  • What would having a strong team empower you to achieve?

A brave new world

Asking myself these frequently asked questions has helped me rally my team and collect friends and colleagues who encourage and cheerlead me when needed. They remind me to make the most of my one wild and precious life, and they encouraged me to acknowledge my fear and leap when positive opportunities come my way.

As for my most recent leap of faith - watch this space!

No man is an island

On a final note, there will be times in many of our lives where we may feel that we have hit rock bottom, at a low ebb, lost or alone. Perhaps this is you right now or someone you know?

At these times, we all need the helping hand of another.

Despite the pull to go incognito and retreat, these are moments that we need to reach out, socially connect and be with people who will help us through and support us till things become more manageable, which they always do!

Reach out

I hope that you will maintain connections with the people that help you. Tell them about the difference they make. Brief them well, so they are clear about the positive impact on you. Ensure that they stay part of your life and are easy to call on when you need them.

If you don't currently have the support of a team, reach for help. Start making connections with people who matter.

If this isn’t possible, contact me, and I will be on your team helping you to create your tribe.

I dedicate this to Paul at Primal Adventures. Once met, never forgotten.
