FINDING INSPIRATION IN NATURE
The Wonders of Nature
Isn’t nature brilliant? We can learn a lot from nature. I’ve been finding inspiration in natural spaces for many years and have written a series of blogs about lessons learned from nature. Today, observing wildlife antics on a wee early morning stomp, some of the sights I saw inspired this post…
Observing Wildlife: Lessons in Symbiosis and Harmony
I observed collaboration and harmony - if you don’t believe me, watch this video.
Symbiosis, HARMONY AND TEAMWORK
Firstly, watching a magpie sitting on the head of a cow, cleaning ticks and parasites from its body, reminded me about symbiosis - a mutually beneficial relationship between different people or groups.
Next, pigeons harmoniously sharing breakfast together - no fighting. Although we don’t always observe this behaviour at feeding time, it reminded me that working and living in harmony is possible and something that humanity needs to pay heed to.
Finally, highland cows ushering their young across a meadow, working as a team, communicating on their mission to reach their feeding point.
Relearning Life Lessons from Nature
On this walk, it felt like I was re-learning lessons I needed reminding of, by simply observing the natural habits of different species. When you step away from the ‘to do’ list, the tech, your workspace, your busy brain slows down and it’s incredible how easily calm can be found and in this state of mind,
re-learning comes.
The transferable lessons… living in harmony, sharing space, working as a team, co-existing in a world with each individual beautifully playing their part.
Enhancing Mental Well-being Through Nature
The question I’m always asking - how can this help us take care of our mental well-being?
Starting the Day Mindfully
Firstly, experiencing natural spaces and wildlife in action is a practice that can help begin a day mindfully.
Understanding and Helping Each Other
Understanding the power of those around us and how we can help each other is part of how we can experience our lives in a better way. We are stronger when we are together - from an evolutionary perspective we understand the survival benefits of being part of a clan.
Finding Your Clan
The question: who do you need in your clan? Can you think of one person at least who just intuitively does things that are helpful? They just say the right thing, they know how you feel before you do, they spot where you are feeling stuck and help you find solutions?
My hope, my best hope, would be for everyone to have someone that helps them that way. They just rock up when you need them or when you holler for them. I believe that we’re supposed to show up for each other. If we can make life easier or effortless for someone else, we should… just because we can. Touching someone’s life and being helpful means showing up like the magpie, sharing like the pigeons and walking the path together like the highland cows.
Finding Harmony and Making an Impact
How can we find harmony, how can we impact just by using our natural skills and making an impact? If you watch the news and listen to the radio, the world seems like one big shit show right now. But my walk in nature in Bonny Scotland reminded me that all around is goodness and kindness, and collaboration. Let’s hunt the good, find evidence of those beautiful moments of symbiosis where people are helping people, people are doing good, people are reaching out, offering kindness and love - that’s what we’re supposed to do, right?
A Mission for a Better World
I’ve learned from nature, from the magpie, the pigeons sharing breakfast, and the highland cows, that peace, love, and mustard are possible. Let’s learn from the world around us. Join me in a mission to leave the world better because we were in it.
