Creating Impact Every Day

Every single day we create results and we make an impact. Achieving goals, getting things done and taking action helps us to create success and build mental fitness in an ever changing world. This was the topic of my most recent blog.

The Power of Small Actions

It is my belief that we all have the capacity to make an impact through our actions and the difference that this makes. The successes that we achieve can be substantial, like winning the prize or the bid, completing the project or securing the job. Yet we also make in an impact in less noticeable but equally valuable ways. It is my belief that small can be significant too.

Perhaps you made someone smile and made their day. Maybe you encouraged action, inspired, or changed a mind. Sometimes the wins that we create and the impact we make can be hard to recognise without a trained and careful eye. 

Recognising Achievements

I invite you to become a detective. Take your magnifying glass and investigate the impact of your achievement and be curious about how you made that possible.

When it comes to taking action, I recognise how easy it is to become outcome focused at the cost of enjoying the process. We can all too easily jump from project to project with our eye firmly on the task list without actively noticing our accomplishments, or the footprint we leave.

Celebrating Triumphs

Outcomes that we create are a measure of our competence and give us useful data that influences our view of ourselves and our belief about what we are capable of achieving. Each time we achieve something that matters to us, it can also provide helpful clues that can create solutions and successes in different situations.

For this reason, celebrating our triumphs is an important way to recognise our contribution, our potential and to strengthen our mental fitness.

How effective are you at noticing the impact you make by your actions and your words?

Whilst it is terribly frowned upon in British culture to blow our own trumpets, I'm suggesting that we should! It's time to become our own cheerleaders.

Create the habit of taking a few moments to reflect on and celebrating your success each day. What have you created, achieved or acquired through your hard work? Here are some questions to help you become clearer:

  • What is your natural talent, that thing that you can do with your eyes closed?

  • What do people navigate to you for help with because you do this with ease?

  • What have you achieved this year that you are most proud of?

  • How might you commit to habing a habit of celebrating your success?

If you find this challenging, ask someone you trust to give you feedback on your value and get their help to pay attention to your successes.

Two friends of mine, Andrew and Pete made themselves a triumph board. They make a habit of pinning up a record of their wins big and small. Another brilliant pal Richard Tubb uses his 'jar of awesome to capture and collect those magic moments of achievement, pride, or reward. That compliment, a client testimonial, a thankyou from a friend; any moments where his efforts have been valued. Both methods are great examples of how you can leave a success footprint.
