Power Up Your Team

“No Man is an isLand”

The quote "no man is an island", derives from the belief that human beings do not thrive in isolation. Having a sense of belonging supports mental fitness regardless of any natural tendency for introversion or extroversion, status, socioeconomic group or gender.

It refers not just to the presence of people in your life, but to having meaningful connections with people with common interests, experiences or values. This in turn helps us to feel that we belong, to make progress and to celebrate our wins. The latter is a subject that I discussed in my most recent blog.

It is my belief that in life and in work the people that you choose to surround yourself with become your team. With this in mind it pays to choose your team wisely. Surround yourself with people who can help you on your mission regardless of what that might be.

Ask yourself, What sort of people do I seek out? Perhaps you are drawn to people who boost your confidence, support you, challenge you or teach you new things. Next consider what sort of people you attract. Do they enable you to adopt an optimistic view?

It has been said that we are the product of the five people we spend time with. If this is true then surround yourself with the people who reflect your aspirations and can deliver your support needs.

As I get older and wiser I have become more selective about my teammates. The people in my world  have my back and top me up. They try new things and encourage me to as well. They remind me to be a mischief maker and they help me feel glad to be alive.

Who you recruit to be on your team will impact your ability to tackle life’s challenges and opportunities. Regardless of what you are trying to get out of life, rallying the strong and empowering people in your life can create a strong anchor to ground you, scaffold you and help you lift yourself up to new heights.

Whether your mission in life is to get the promotion, complete the project, be more optimistic, have more fun, pursue adventure, start a business, bring up a happy family - harness the power that comes with having an outstanding team.

Take this as a reminder to surround yourself with the people who top you up, make you a better person or help you feel glad to be alive. Who do you want to recruit for your team?
