Mindset Matters

The Influence of Experiences on Self-Esteem

Our experiences past and present will influence our self esteem, and the beliefs or the theories that we carry about ourselves.

Nurturing Wellbeing and Mindset

In my last blog I wrote about the role of nurturing wellbeing in our mental fitness development. This also depends upon us being able to adopt a helpful mindset that leads us to happiness and success, whatever that means to us.

Regardless of your past, it is possible to change your attitude in order to choose a more constructive lens through which to view your world view and to create a positive landscape much like the tale of two brickies. This will influence whether you are at the helm of the ship or at the starboard, holding on for dear life.

Clearing Clutter for Mental Clarity

Clutter can often be a source of stress for many. This can make your thoughts less clear and cause overwhelm. This can be physical or mental clutter. Clearing environmental clutter and creating an organised and positive space around us can help us to focus, feel organised and experience positive emotions.

Shifting our mindset can also involve clearing the clutter of our minds, tackling our inner gremlins then making space for empowering and solution focused thoughts that will help us to live life lighter.

Choosing Empowering Thoughts

Your mindset matters so spring clean your thoughts.. Make time to notice the thought that you are giving airspace. Choose only to keep only the ones that are helpful to you with the awareness that  unhelpful thoughts are squatters so Invite them to take a hike.

This can also apply to people in your life. My strategy for letting go of the people who have a negative impact on my mindset is to have created space to ‘park up’ the things and the people in my life who dont always serve me well. Excuse the language but I simply place them and their potential to have a negative impact on me in the ‘fuc?£it bucket or the shitfile!! Sometimes you have to let go to grow and make space for a more helpful perspective to shape your world view. As one wise friend told me ‘sometimes you just have to let go of shit that weighs you down’.

Keys to Developing a Positive Mindset

I have read that changing your attitude relies on the following and so my invite to you is to work out how to make the presence of these things possible in your mind.

  1. Believe that your hard work will lead to your development and improvement.

  2. Create confidence that you are in the right space - a space where you can thrive.

  3. Develop the view that what you are doing is valuable and relevant to your goals.

Factors Influencing Wellbeing and Success

From years of experience in helping people, developing a mindset that positively impacts  wellbeing and their success at being able to thrive and succeed is influenced by the following:

Be kind to yourself. Let go of the delusion of perfection and develop a growth mindset, You can be a novice AND be in the process of mastering something new.

Tap in to the power of your team. I speak often about how valuable this can be for us all. Connect with likeminded people who are creating similar goals and build a community or a clan where you feel that you belong.

Keeping a Future Focus

Finally I advise that you sustain a future focus. Stay focused on imagining life when you have achieved your goals and take small but significant actions every day to work towards this outcome. Finding the ‘just right challenge where the challenge to success ratio is approximately 4% will help you to use your adrenaline spikes to drive you forward and not hold you back.

Mindset Reset

With all this in mind, it could be said that right now is as good a time as any to have a mindset reset. My three hacks for this are as follows;

Keep one eye on what you are grateful for in your life. A gratitude mindset helps us appreciate what we have and focus on giving thanks.

Find a mindset that strengthens an optimistic view of your life at the moment. Then shift your expectations and your actions to match what is possible.

So regardless of who you are, my best hopes for you...view your world with a solution focused mindset. Imagine a place where new possibilities exist. This can mean new people, new challenges and new experiences. Live life lighter and find opportunity in the face of challenging world.
